Vegan cheese & onion scones

Updated: Dec 5, 2023

Vutter makes the perfect scone bases - crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside! It's so easy, you can use this recipe base for sweet or savoury. Those are our favourite cheesy scones, super easy to make and so delicious they will disappear pretty quickly!

INGREDIENTS:

3 cups standard grade flour

3 tsp baking powder

¾ cup grated vegan cheese (optional)

¼ tsp turmeric powder

1 tsb of nutritional yeast flakes

2 spring onions finely chopped

¼ tsp salt

120g of cold Vutter (our mini blocks are perfect for this!)

1 ¼ cups of plant based milk of your choice - or use water for a lighter scone

How to:

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C. Grease or flour a baking tray.

  2. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl. Add vegan cheese, spring onions, turmeric & yeast flakes to the mixture. Add the cold #Vutter and use your fingertips to combine it well with the dried mix, until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

  3. Add the milk (or water) and gently mix it in - the trick for the perfect scones is to not mix it for too long! The mixture should be quite soft, and a little bit sticky.

  4. Working quickly use a floured spoon to place 'scones' on the baking tray. Allow 2cm space between them so they can grow nicely. Sprinkle some flour on top (or some extra grated 'cheese') and put them in the pre-heated oven.

  5. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Place on a wire rack to cool, and enjoy with some cold Vutter of your preference - while they are still a bit warm :)
